EMB #209: That One Big Break 3

Early in my athletic career I was hoping for one big break, maybe throughout my career I was hoping just one person saw me in the right situation. This is no different with business, with one product or one idea. I suppose not until recently I realized there’s no such thing, one big break is a myth. It takes time, effort, dedication and sacrifices to get what you’re after no matter if it’s a fitness program, business or other areas of your life.

Here are my top 5 Tips

…to help you get past waiting for that one big break

#1. Find a Mentor or Coach

Without a doubt this is the most significant tip in getting past waiting for that one big break. Think about how much of an advantage you’d have if you found someone you can trust that has been through what you want to accomplish.

Think about someone you aspire to and how valuable their sharing information or advice would be to and how quickly they could help you progress. This doesn’t always have to be a paid coach, you could find someone in your family, a trusted friend or someone else you find that has the experience to help you out.

#2. Figure out what you really want

It’s pretty difficult to go after your dreams and goals if you don’t know what they are. Sounds funny but the truth is we often think we want something and don’t know why. We often talk about doing something but don’t take any action towards it. We wander around aimlessly no overstating down and really digging deep to learn how to go about finding what we really want.  Which is a perfect segway to to the next tip.

#3. Design a plan for success

We all need a plan for success, it doesn’t matter if it’s a business plan or a weekly plan for nutrition and fitness. Designing a plan will help you know exactly what you’re eating for the week, know exactly what you’re doing on what day for exercise and give you confidence knowing exactly what you’ll be doing throughout the week.

#4. Stay Focused

It’s important to stay focused as move forward towards your goals and avoid waiting for the one big break.  I highly suggest writing your goals down, talking about them, letting your friends know what you’re doing and what you’re trying to accomplish. I know this is scary but I also believe it’s incredibly significant in the big picture.

You can put sticky notes around your house or office, you can write on the mirror in you bathroom, give yourself reminders in your journal (written or electronic). There are so many distractions out there, so may ways to fall off track, which is why it’s so important to find different ways to stay focused all the time.

#5. Be willing to adjust on the fly

Things come up, life happens. Our goals change over time as does our mind set, there’s nothing wrong with that, in fact it’s normal. To be successful in following your dreams you need to have an open mind, be willing to adjust on the fly and if nothing else, be resourceful and make it happen.

Having the same mind set, not considering a different way or a different idea will only slow your progress if not stop it completely.
