Finding Success is the topic on today’s Exploring Mind and Body. First of all welcome to show #150, being on air for this many shows and almost 3 years has been an absolute please. There’s been so many lessons learned and positive aspects that have come out of this show, I’m so grateful it’s been a part of me. Let’s get into the show.
Finding Success
Finding success is the main topic of the show and what it comes down to is, what is success to you? Have you actually thought about this, have you ever written it down, have you ever clearly defined your success? Because I’m guessing you haven’t, in fact I know many haven’t because when I ask I don’t get a clear answer. How can we find success if we don’t know what it is, if we don’t know what it looks like? What if our success is starring us right in the face, what if we’ve already achieved success but we don’t know it because we have no definition of it?
So here is what I want you to do, grab a pen and paper, you can do it right now if you like (unless you’re driving or doing some kind of activity, that wouldn’t be a good idea), course you can come back or pause if you’re listening on itunes or directly from exploringmindandbody.com…..but what I want you to do is make a list and write down what success is to you.
I’d bet many people have no idea where to start. I mean success, is success, fancy cars, big houses, lots of money, that’s success to everyone isn’t it? No it’s not, there are plenty of successful people out there that don’t have diamonds and fancy cars and shopping budget that has no end. Financial success isn’t the only kind of success and even if that’s what you’re after, do you have an end to it?
A good friend of mine asked me one time, what’s enough for you, what’s success, how much money will make you happy. I replied, I want tons of money, millions, I want an unlimited amount of money. They said, you aren’t able to have an unlimited amount of money, it’ll stop somewhere. They carried on, so if you never want it to stop, if there’s no end, then no amount will make you happy? This was a deep question, much deeper than I initially had thought.
But you see, that’s the problem, we don’t have a definition of success and it doesn’t have to be money. Do we have a decent car, maybe many even consider it nice. We have a loving, supportive family, we have food on the table, we can even take vacations when we want. But look, these same people still don’t consider themselves successful, why not? Because they haven’t defined what success is to themselves.
We chase something that isn’t there, we’re better off than most but we still want. And don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with achieving, there’s nothing wrong with striving or accomplishing but what I’m getting at here is, why not find out what success is to you. It doesn’t mean it’ll never change, it doesn’t mean you won’t set new heights and achieve more but it does mean, when you find that success, the success that you clearly defined, that you can find some gratification in your hard work, you can find contentment, you can be satisfied and even celebrate a little that you’re where you want to be, that you’ve reached your goal….and be proud of who you are or what you’ve become.
